The Lady Speaks

The State of the Union is….

I tortured myself into listening to the whole thing on the radio. I wish I’d thought ahead and bought a bottle of wine or maybe some Scotch because listening to it sober was like having a root canal…without anesthesia.

“I come in this chamber are new to the House and the Senate — and I congratulate the Democrat majority. (Applause.) Congress has changed, but not our responsibilities. Each of us is guided by our own convictions — and to these we must stay faithful. Yet we’re all held to the same standards, and called to serve the same good purposes: To extend this nation’s prosperity; to spend the people’s money wisely; to solve problems, not leave them to future generations; to guard America against all evil; and to keep faith with those we have sent forth to defend us.

Honest to Goddess – who is he kidding?

The state of the Union isn’t strong, it’s weak and getting weaker. Only he and his cronies and other like them (ie: rich as Croesus) are seeing prosperity. The rest of us are either hanging on by our fingernails, sliding into poverty due to the loss of a job or a catastrophic illness, or the fact that wages are stagnant while the costs of daily living have risen dramatically in the last seven years.

‘Keep faith with those we have sent forth to defend us’?!

Oh you’ve done a good job of that, Bushie….you’ve cut the VA budget, failed to properly arm and equip our soldiers, failed to properly plan the aftermath of the invasion – occupation and reconstruction both – and 3050+ soldiers have paid for those failures with their lives. Another 25,000+/- have paid in blood, and limbs, and shattered minds.

Other thoughts:

We need to balance the budget?! Who the hell un-balanced it, George?

We need to stop being dependent on foreign oil?! Haven’t you said that every year, even as oil prices skyrocketed, and your family and your buddies in BigOil were making money hand-over-fist?

We need to use “diplomacy”?! Do you even know what that word means, Mr. McFlightSuit? Because not ten minutes later you were doing the “Iran bad, very bad” thing. In case you didn’t know, ‘diplomacy’ means using  words and working with other countries – even ones we don’t like – to find peaceful solutions.

Iraq will fall into chaos?!?! What the hell do you think’s happening over there?!

  1. Dear Lady,
You want anything associated with Bush to fail, because that would allow you to return to the easy life of attacking him. Bu t the problem is If the United States withdraw defeated from Iraq, it will be disastrous for the Middle East in general and for the world in particular. We will witness mass murder, gender apartheid, sectarianism, tribalism, exodus, and terrorism in out of Iraq. By contrast, if the United States succeeds stabilizing Iraq, we will witness democracy, peace, and prosperity for not only Iraq but for the entire region.

  2. Ding ding ding! We have a kool-aid drinker in Aisle 1! Someone get the nets and call the deprogrammers please!

Name one thing the man hasn’t screwed up. One.

    Did he help…

    New Orleans? No.
    Iraq? No.
    Balanced budget? No.
    Fiscal restraint? Definitely not.
Osama Bin Laden? Still running loose and planning terror attacks.
    The Taliban? Back again.
Ensured our troops were outfitted with the best armor and provided fully up-armored vehicles? No.
Ensured the Veteran’s Administration was fully-funded to care for the wounded troops, many of whom are coming home with ‘poly-trauma’? No. In fact, he and the rubber-stamps actually cut VA funding.
Provided health insurance to the 47 million Americans without? Nope.
Reduced the number of children living in poverty? No.

And, sadly, the list goes on.

What you and the rest of the hardcore supporters don’t understand is that we don’t want Bush to fail. He’s already a failure.

  3. His approval rating was 34% before the address.
    His supporters are deserting him.
It’s ok to admit that we picked a ninny for President, and a Horses-Behind for VP.
This is a failed administration. But love or like most of us hat him…January 2009 he enters the history books.
His legacy will be the worst President ever elected. Lets hope no one can unseat him in that regard.
You mix politics and religion, and get George W. Bush.
Support our troops by bringing them home…
Let George take real responsibility for this war, and end it during his term in office. He won’t do that, because then he can say, “WEll, YA’ll Know if they had followed my plan, we would have had Victory. ”
An, aside, note: John Kerry decided not to run again. I support that. Once again, however, he needs to ask..who will we ask to be the last person to die for a mistake?
George be a man. Do the right thing.
