I was in Jr. High School when my brother went off to Viet Nam.
I was married with children in school when it finally ended,
and we watched the P.O.W.'s return.
The Viet Nam War (altho it was never called War officially) cost my generation over 150,000 young men and women. I do not have any idea of the toll on The VietNamese citizens. Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford served during the build up, and final end to that debacle. It was, possibly until Iraq, the worst mistake made by America.
Times have changed, and with improved industry and a global economy, we don't have to make the day to day sacrifices that our parents made in WW II. We didn't make them in Korea, or Viet Nam either. But what we have made is the real sacrifice of our children.
My mother had a neighbor, whoboasted of being able to hang 5 Gold Star banners in her window. That was her sacrifice. She had every right to be proud of the sons she lost, but why would this nation or any nation ask that. That, however, was the good fight.
We know VietNam was a dismal failure.
Iraq will be.
As the old saying goes, "Those who do not study and learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."
We must end this war now !
